How can we continue ceramic production without depleting the Earth’s resources?
The exhibition Ødeland highlights this challenge and explores the potential of recycling ceramic waste and surplus materials from quarries and the glass industry.
Three ceramic artists, Christina Schou Christensen, Thora Finnsdottir, and Signe Fensholt, have been experimenting with alternative materials for a long time and now present their results in a sensory and reflective exhibition. The exhibition opens on Friday, March 7 at 4 PM at Officinet, Bredgade 66, 1260 Copenhagen K.
The project is developed in close collaboration with BOFA, a key player in the municipality’s waste management, contributing expertise in circular economy and resource optimization. Additionally, the project has received support from the Danish Arts Foundation, which has been crucial for its realization. Ødeland is also linked to the Horizon Europe research project HEPHAESTUS, which aims to preserve and innovate craftsmanship through sustainable materials and methods.
The exhibition is accompanied by two conversation salons, where artists, researchers, and designers will discuss the role of sustainability in artistic practice and our perception of quality and aesthetics:
- March 13, 4:30-6:30 PM: What role does sustainability play in aesthetic practice? With Pernille Stockmarr and Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt, moderated by Charlotte Jul.
- March 20, 4:30-6:30 PM: How does the concern for sustainability affect our taste and idea of quality? With Nina Husted Erichsen and Petra Lilja, moderated by Charlotte Jul.

Ødeland is not just an art exhibition but a vision for a future where craftsmanship can be part of a sustainable, circular economy. The exhibition is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, the National Bank’s Anniversary Fund, and the EU funded, Horizon Europe project HEPHAESTUS.
