The visit to Nove, organised in the context of the HEPHAESTUS Symposium 2026 took place on April 10, 2026. It offered a rich and engaging insight into one of Italy’s most significant ceramic manufacturing districts. Set within a landscape shaped by centuries of artistic production and everyday skilled work, the experience revealed how deeply embedded ceramics are in the cultural and social fabric of the area.
Throughout the day, participants encountered a dynamic interplay between tradition and contemporary experimentation. The programme included visits to key sites and practitioners, among them Lineasette, a historic manufacturer known for its distinctive porcelain stoneware production, and Stylnove Ceramiche, where artisanal tradition meets contemporary design through collaborations with artists and designers. A particularly valuable moment was the visit to the laboratorio of Diego Poloniato, whose work exemplifies a deeply rooted yet highly personal reinterpretation of local ceramic traditions.
The exploration of Nove also extended to its cultural heritage through the Diffused Museum, including the Antico Mulino Pestasassi (Baccin Cecchetto, now Stringa), offering insight into the historical infrastructure that supported ceramic production in the area. Together, these places highlighted Nove as a “living landscape of craft,” where heritage, production, and everyday life remain closely intertwined.
Beyond observation, the experience also encouraged active participation. At Te.Ra Design Studio, under the guidance of Elena Rausse and Bruno Testa, participants engaged in a shared, hands-on ceramic-making process, collectively exploring and materialising ideas emerging from the symposium.
