Folkemødet festival
June 12-14.06
Following the symposium, participants will engage in public debates at the Folkemødet festival (June 12-14.06) to address broader societal discussions, increasing public outreach and education.
It will bring together scholars from business schools, art history departments, design schools and environmental humanities alongside craft practitioners and policymakers to explore how craft and artistic processes can offer fresh insights into addressing global economic, societal, and ecological challenges. As a practice deeply rooted in both tradition and innovation, craft is increasingly recognized in research as a transformative force that transcends conventional modes of production. By integrating craft with artistic inquiry, we will invite contributions to discuss craft practices as more resilient, ethical, and sustainable ways of organizing and responding to crises, fostering new forms of creative and ecological awareness.

About symposium
The Bornholm Symposium 2025 will bring together, for the first time in Denmark, a diverse group of scholars from business schools, art history departments, and environmental humanities, alongside craft practitioners and policymakers, to explore the evolving role of craft in addressing pressing global challenges. Craft, both as historical and contemporary art practices, offers a conceptual lens and construction of imaginaries through which we can rethink and reshape current economic and societal systems by bridging traditional techniques with future-oriented and alternative forms of organizing.
