The thought-provoking exhibition Brave New World will be showcased in Venice from October 17 to December 20, 2024, inviting visitors to explore an alternative vision of our present and future. Open to all, this unique exhibition delves into a world where artisanal craftsmanship, rather than mass production, shapes society and its values. Everyone is invited to visit the exhibition at Venice School of Management, Ca’ Foscari University, Exhibition spaces, Cannaregio 873, 30121 Venice to engage with this imaginative reimagining of our world, where creativity and sustainability converge to offer new perspectives on industrialization, consumption, and community.
The exhibition “Brave New World” by D20 Art Lab explores an alternative vision of industrialization, contrasting the unsustainable model of mass production with a utopian world founded on artisanal craftsmanship. Inspired by the work of Charles Sabel and Jonathan Zeitlin, the exhibition poses the question: What if our present were shaped by the principles of artisanal production rather than industrial mass consumption? Through a timeline of evocative images, the exhibition imagines a world with different relationships to resources, production, trade, and consumption—more sustainable, equitable, and aligned with artisanal values.
This evolving narrative is shaped by collaborations with researchers from the Horizon Europe project HEPHAESTUS, merging academic insights with the creative practices of craftsmanship to envision a radically different future.
The exposition was already demonstrated to the wider public in Gothenburg, Sweden, in the beginning of May, 2024. It got very positive feedback about the create and daring ideas illustrated.
“The systematic use of the artistic process, the actual making of artistic expressions in all of the different forms of the arts, as a primary way of understanding and examining experience by both researchers and the people that they involve in their studies”
(quoted from Baden, Maggi Savin, and Katherine Wimpenny. A practical guide to arts-related research. Springer, 2014.)
